William Griffithin the parish of Llanbedr on the 2 April 1830 attempted to strangle his wife, Mary, with his bare hands to suffocate her and to push a stick down her throat (WALES 4/261/6).  In her deposition (WALES 4/261/6) she said that she was sitting by the fire which was bright and with the door open to let out the smoke when her husband came in.  She said "Well.  Well.  I am glad to see you.  I have not seen you for a long time."  He came up to her and throwing her to the floor attempted to strangle her and force a stick into her mouth.

The hangman from Chester was paid £17 for his fare and the execution plus £1.4.- for sustenance.  A man from Liverpool built the gallows and supplied a coffin for £10.13 .- and decorated the lower part of the gallows with black crepe at a cost of £2.16.-.
